Winthrop Bell and His Register
A reading of a Fictionalized Account of Marie Payzant's experiences
Here is the crowd (about 400) gathering for a stimulating day.
The first presenter was Dr. Terry Punch,
who gave an overview of the life and impact of Dr. Winthrop Bell, author of
The Foreign Protestants and the Settlement of Nova Scotia (1961) and
Register of The Foreign Protestants of Nova Scotia (2003).
Next, Dr. Ken Paulsen spoke about Land Ownership in Early Lunenburg.
The slide beside him shows the ethnicity of ownership of 30 acre lots.
We have Ken to thank for organizing this day.
In the afternoon, author Cameron Royce Jess gave a reading
of a fictionalized account of Marie Payzant's experiences,
taken from his book Bearer of the Chosen Seed
The Seminar Day, and Reunion, concluded with a presentation on
Folklore of Lunenburg County given by Clary Croft.
This featured reminiscances of the life and work of Helen Creighton
and included song and voices from the past recorded by Helen.
There was ample time for questions to be answered.
Here, Deborah Trask is fielding questions
about her slide presentation on Germanic headstones.
Ken Paulsen being grilled in an informal way.
Terry Punch listening to a probing question.
The Reunion ended with a few words from the Reunion Coordinator.
Thanks to the Seminar Day presenters.
Clary says "Hey Mom, look at what I got."
